Mr. and Mrs. I. Salek returned to Wellington by car from Wanganui yesterday.

Mr. A. AT. Burns, manager of the Christchurch “Press,” arrived from the South yesterday morning. Mr. Cam Pratt, the publicity manager for Mr. E. I. Carrol, and editor of the Australian "Theatre Magazine”, left for Sydney by the Maheno yesterday.

Among those who left for Sydney by the Maheno vesterday were Mr. and Mrs. William Duthie, who propose to spend a couple of mouths in Sydney and Brisbane, and Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Short, well known in musical circles in Wellington.

Mr. W. J. Polson, President of the New Zealand Farmers* Union, who is one of the members of the Rural Credit Commission, will arrive in Auckland on Tuesday next. Mr. Robert Michael Marks, who has died at Christcharch,. was an old and highlv respected citizen of Dunedin. Not long ago he came through a seriotis illness. His wife died three weeks ago, and Mr. Marks then went to reside with his voungest son, Dr. I. D. Marks, of Christchurch, and there his death occurred. Mr. Marks was an enthusiastic member of the Dunedin Bowling Club, and a senior member of the Jewish congregation. Another son is Mr. Joe Marks, of Wellington. Mr. P. "ilig (of Christchurch) accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Oscar Josephson, will leave Auckland on August 3 bv the Aorangi for Vancouver, whence thev journey to New York. Air. Selig has accepted an invitation from Dr'. Walter Williams (president of the World’s Press Congress)to join the delegation leaving New York bv the Carmania for Havre, thence to Geneva, where the Congress Sessions will be held -from September 14 to 18. These being concluded, a tour of the Continent will be undertaken, nftet which the delegates will go to London, a week’s- official programme of functions having been arranged. Mr. Selig is the first of the three life members of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association, the two other later appointments being Sir Henry - Frett and Sir Jr'.c.w'gc Fenwick.
