SUBURBS RIFLE CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING The Suburbs Defence Rifle Club held its annual general meeting on Thursday, President IV. G. Fellingham being in'the chair. . The secretary s report. indicated that tho club had retained its reputation as one of the leading shooting combinations in the Dominion. Fourteen members attended the National Rifle Association meeting at Trentham in March. J Smart finished fifth for the New Zealand championship belt and three others were also in the King’s fifty. The club’s team (H. R. Hunt, R. E. Hester, J. Smart, A. Harris, and T. Goodall) won • the New Zealand Rifle Clubs’ teams match. The team also won the Islington Cup and were run-ners-up up in tho champion teams’ match. At the same meeting R. E. Hester won the Otago match at 800 and 900 yards with a score of 96. Deputy. President H. R. Hunt annexed both the Wellington and North Island rifle championships. Scores in tho different club competitions wero much higher than usual, and after a keen contest and a close finish Deputy-President R. E. Hester won* the championship, with J. Smart, H. R. Hunt and C. Milroy next in that order. Pleasure was expressed at several young members figuring in the prize lists. The financial position was fairly low, principally on account of tho heavy expense incurred in building a new range at Miramar, but it was expected to considerably improve in the near future. Quite a number of new members joined during the year, and, as so many more wish to join, the question of limiting tho member, ship will probably have to bo considered. Those members appointed to attend to tho administration of tho club were heartily commended upon their splendid work, special reference being made to the retiring president (Mr. W; G. Fellingham) and secretary (Mr. R. E. Hester). ' The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patrons, Sir John and Lady Luke; vice-patrors. Hon. R. A. Wright, M.P.. Messrs. R. McKeen, M.P., J. J.
