At the Railway Officers’ Institute conference yesterday, the president (Mr. V. R. J. Stanley) presented Mr. R S. Skinner, one of the vice-presi-dents, with the institute’s gold medal for meritorious service. The Dean of Nelson (Rev. F. C. Askew), who underwent a serious operation last Friday, is making slow but satisfactory progress towards recovery (reports our Nelson correspondent). The cable ship Dominia is loading nt London 3500 nautical miles of cable, weighing 8500 tons, for the VancouverFanning Island duplication.
