PARLIAMENT
TO-DAY’S BUSINESS
The chief item of business when the House of Representatives meets this afternoon will be the first Imprest Supply Bill, not the least interesting feature of which will be a provision validating the revival of the legislation of 1922, which empowers local authorities to raise loans without taking a poll of the ratepayers. The measure is purelv an emergency one, and the unemployment situation is responsible for its appearance. Members who have weathered more than one session predict a late night to-night, but for to-morrow, when a commencement will be made <ll the evening with the Address-in-Replv debate, an carlv finish is expected. The forecast is made that probablv only the mover and the seconder will speak at that stage. Just to what length the debate will be prolonged is not known, but the Prime Minister’s opinion, as announced in the House last week, was that it should not take long. The Labour Opposition, of course, are to move a vote of no-confidence, nrobablv on Thursday, and although the usual secrecv is being preserved, it will no doubt be’found that the grounds of the motion will be the Government’s immigration nolicv, unemployment, and right to work.
