OFF TO AMERICA

$ NEW ZEALAND BOXING CHAMPION.

Les. Murrav, of Dunedin, professional light-weiglit boxing champion, of the Dominion, will leave for America today in order to complete his studies in the art of physical culture. He will be given a send-off by the New Zealand Boxing Council this morning. The champion was presented to the audience at the amateur championships at the Town Half last evening, and was accorded a rousing reception, those present cheering him to the echo, and singing “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”

In response to insistent calls for a speech, Les Murray modestly said: “Speech-making is not in my line. I would much prefer to 'perform to you in the ring here However, I thank vou most heartilv for the reception you have given me to-night. I intend to engage in boxing in the United States, but Ido not expect to do much. However, it will be the very best that I can do for New Zealand’s sake.” (Loud applause.)
