WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE SATURDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES There were no transactions registered on the Exchange on Saturday, but there was a fair number of buying orders. A moderate business was done during the past week, and there was particularly active trading in Bank of New Zealand shares, which changed hands at 625. ,iti. to das. 3d., cu.m, dividend, in all twenty-four parcels were transferred during the week. Bank of Australasia shares sold at 414 45., 411 3s. 6d., and 414 55., Commercial Bank ordinary at 315., Bank of New South Wales at 445, 4 .45 55., and 445 7s. 6d., Union Bank shares at 415 55., Western Australian Bank at 575. 6d., English, Scottish, and Australian Bank at 48, and National Bank of Australasia, 410 paid, at 417 165., and £5 paid, at 48 19s. 6d. Government stocks and bonds were verv slack, and business was restricted to the 5j per cents., which changed hands at 499 10s. and 499 12s. Gd. There was little business transacted in the shares of financial companies. Sales were registered of Goldsbrough Mort and Co.’s shares at 495. Gd., cum. dividend. National Mortgage at 43 15s. 3d., and N.Z. Gurantee Corporation at 9s lOd. Gas shares were very quiet. A sale of Auckland Gas shares at 235. lOd. was registered. Insurance shares have been in very good demand, but holders do not appear willing to accept the current bids. On Saturday there were buyers of National Insurance at 43 195., and New Zealand Insurance at 40s. Three parcels of .New Zealand Refriger ating shares, 10s. paid, sold at Bs. 3d. There were no transactions in shipping shares, but at the week-end there was a demand for Huddart-Parker shares, the ordinary at 445. 6d., the preference at 20s. 7d„ and Union Steam preference at 19s. 9d. Wellington Woollen shares were in strong demand, but the bids of 46 7s. 6d. for the ordinary, and 46 8s 6d. for the preference, 'ailed to encourage business A good business was done in Westport Coal shares, ten parcels changing hands at 365. 9d. and 375.
