HARRIERS

WELLINGTON CLUB. In ideal weather the Wellington Harriers' Club held its annual three-mile sealed handicap at Lyall Bay on Saturday. The race was for the silver cup presented by Mr. C. W. Palmer some years ago. The race was one of the best yet run, the limit men all finishing within a few minutes of fastest time. Owing to many of the club members being indisposed, only fifteen runners faced the starter. Soon after the start Ellis and Spence went to the front, closely followed by Weston, Mulcahy. Morris. Gamble, and Sheppard, until about a third of the distance had been covered, when Mulcahy, Morris, and Sheppard took the lead from Spence, the rest of the field being well up, T. Mulcahy kept his lead, and won by about 50 yards, (time. IBmin. 45sec.)> J. Sheppard second. S. Morris third, R. Spence fourth, and P. Harlen fifth. On the handicaps being worked out, it was found that P. Harlen (2miu. 45sec.) had won, with T. Mulcahy (15see.) second, and H. Ellis (2min. lOscc.) third. The winner holds tho cup for one. year, besides receiving a gold wristlet watch, also presented by Mr. Palmer. The following were the starters and their handicaps: J. Sheppard (15sec.), T. Mulcahy (15sec.). S. Morris (205e0.), R. Johnson (Imin. Msec.). W. Weston (imin. 40 seed. It. Spence (Imin. 50sec.), D. Gamble (Imin. 55sec.l. F. Harlen (Imin. 55sec.). C. Devereux (imin.), H. Ellis (2mjn. lOsec.), I. Burt (2min. 15sec.), J. Swan (2min. 25 sec)., J. Clark (2min. 40sec.). P. Harlen (2min. 45sec.), T. Nash (4min.). Officials for the race were: Mr. W. Press (starter). Mr. S. Hillikcr (time-keeper). Messrs. W. Donaldson and P. Rowberry (number, stewards), Messrs. E. Williams and A. Robinson (trail laj'ers). Next week’s run will he held from the Boys’ Institute. SCOTTISH CLUB. The Scottish Harriers held their weekly run on Saturday from Karori Council Chambers. There was an attendance of about twenty members. The course led up the hills towards the reservoir, where the brow of the hills was followed to South Karori. The road was then fol lowed back to the Council Chambers. Z run-in was held over the last 400 yards resulting in a win for E. Whitehouse with F. Silver second, and W. Clarkthird. Next week the Bannatyne Cur will be competed for from the Miramar Salvation Army schoolrooms. BROOKLYN CLUB. The Brooklyn Harriers held a very pleasant run at Lower Hutt, about sixteen members being present. L. Todd laid a rather obscure trail across four miles of flat country, which was boggy in parts. Although the pack stopped freauently for the purpose of finding the trail and taking photographs of the runners, a fast pace was maintained throughout several stretches. The run was concluded bv a run-in of 300 yards which was won by Tnmblvn. with N Smellie (captain) second. D. C. Pedersen and Sinel dead-heated for third place Afternoon tea was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Tamblyn, to whom the thanks of the club are due. Next Saturday the Cooke Cup race will take place from Miramar terminus.
