BOWLS

ISLAND BAY CLUB. The annual report of the Island Buy Bowling Club states that the member ship roll is 76 ordinary members, 27 honorary members, and one country member. The entertainment programme produced a return of 433 2s. 5d., which obviated striking a levy. The bringing into play of tho additional green, together with the improvements effected in the greens generally, provided both increased playing accommodation and better conditions. Through the generosity of soms members top-dressiug has been carried out with soil from Karori, and prospects for a really good green for next season were most . promising. The club’s direct effort in aid of a play area on the waterfront produced 4(254 16s. ‘Jd., the members of the ladies’ committee being largely responsible for the result. Amongst others, thanks is accorded to Mr. J. A. Campbell, green superintendent, and hie deputy, Mr. D. Monro. The winners of competitions were:—Champion singles (Willoughby Cup), Mr. H. C. Osborne; junior singles, Mr. G. Innis; club rinks, Messrs A. V. Dallow, G. Inniss, F. J. Jones, .1. Jenkins (s.); club pans d’estieaux Cup), Messrs. V. Reooi. and E. a. Herron (s.); champion rinks (Mr. G. Springhall’s trophies), Messis. W. Kerr, E. A. Herron, D. 11. Taylor, J. M. Halo (s.); champion pairs, Messrs. J. A. Conder and A. B. Duff (s.). The Wanganui Christmas tournament was won by the following rink :—Messrs. W. Kerr, E. A. Herron, J. A. Conder, A. B. Duff (s.). The Wellington Centre’s trophy, the Edwin feathers, was won by the club early in the season, lost, and won again at the close of the season. A number of members had the privilege and pleasure of playing with the British bowlers, and fully enjoyed their acquaintance and fellowship. Regret was recorded ut the death of Mr. W. Hall.
