A remarkable spectacle was furnished l<i road tinvellers along the Fitzherbert hills the other afternoon, the clearness of Fhe atmosphere and the absence of clouds along the horizon giving an. excellent view of Mounts Egmont, Ruapehu, and Ngauruhoe (says the Manawatu "Evening Standard”). Despite the fact that Ngauruhoe appeared to be but a hillock alongside iis companion, Ruapehu,, on the northern horizon, the fact that it was still active was plainly evident by the continuous cloud of steem which was being ejected from the crater.
