ROSE’S TOUR

COMMENT* ON HIS FORM A number of letters were received at the meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association Council last night from J. W. McHolni, R. A. Rose’s companion on his world tour. He stated that in a work-out at Suva, Rose did one mile in 4min. 33sec. At Winnipeg, a leading Canadian coach was very favourably impressed with Rose’s style and running. He considered that the champion’s shoulder and arm action was excellent. “I wished the Canadian to look at this as some people in New Zealand had told me that it was faulty,” continued Mr. McHolm. “ ‘Rose has’ good body angle and puts his feet down correctly,’ was the Canadian’s summary. There was just one little matter that lie thought might be improved when Rose was running slowly, but when Rose speeded up, the fault disappeared.” On the motion of Mr. F. Wilton, the council recorded its pleasure at Rose’s success on his first appearance on English soil in winning the threemile Atlanta special scratch race at the Essex County championships' on Saturday.
