May 31, 7.15 p.m.) London, May '3l. The "Daily Telegraph’s" special writer says the only real surprise in the England team is the selection of Allen. He recalls Alien’s memorable bowling in the ’Varsity match in .1922. He adds: “The team includes six or seven great batsmen, and three others who can score. Practically even - member of the team is a first-rate field.”— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. AUSTRALIANS’ RUN-MAK-ING MACHINE AT LAST REVEALED. London, May 30. All the Sunday papers and week-day cricket w.riters emphasise that the Australians’ run-making machine has at last revealed itself. They admit that the ■ bowling of Middlesex was by no means mediocre, but the Australians wore it down solidly and effectually, but should have flogged it more towards the close of the day. Colonel Philip Trevor, in the “Daily Telegraph,” heaps praise upon Andrews, who, he states, gave the best display of the tour, with the exception of Macartney’s against Marylebone. "Andrews is a stylist,” writes Colonel Trevor, “if that consists of doing what he set out to do without apparent effort. Collins has hitherto compiled his score with short utns, but on Saturday he worked for them hard and successfully. Likewise Bardsley broke his spell of ill-success, but is still not at his best.”—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. NORTH OF ENGLAND TEAM London, May 30. The North of. England team to play against the Australians on Wednesday, at Birmingham, wil be as follows:— A. W, Carr (Notts, captain), V. W. C. Jupp (Northants), P. Holmes (Yorkshire) , H. Sutcliffe (Yorkshire), C. Hallows (Lancashire), F. Watson (Lancashire), E. J. Smith (Warwickshire), W. Whysall (Notts), H. Larwood (Notts), G. Geary (Leicestershire), and F. Root (Worcestershire). The twelfth man will be J. H. Parsons (Warwickshire) .—Reuter.
