UNEMPLOYMENT

RELIEF WORK IN VIEW Palmerston North, May 31. Those unemployed will welcome the news that on Wednesday relief work will be available for a certain number of married men who are urgently in need. Mr. J. Lowden, of the Palmerston North branch of the Labour Department, who made this statement, does not state the nature of the work—whether it has any connection with the proposed railway deviation, while the local member of Parliament has nothing further to add to the information.

During the month there have been over 150 applications for employment at- the local labour office, the majority being unskilled labourers.
