ANNUAL MEETING. Mr. L. 0, 11. Tripp presided over a largo attcuc.ance at the annual meeting of the 'Wellington Acclimatisation Society last night. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, Mr. Tripp remarked that it was the most satisfactory one that the society had issued. The finana.al statement showed that the excess of income over expenditure was .£347 2s. Gd. During the year the
society had collected 300,000 brown ova aud had purchased 400,000 ova from .both Otago and Southland. Mr. Phillips, who inspected over 60 streams in the district, reported over 60 streams large quantities of insect food in all the streams. Hb recommended that the society should purchase their ova from the south for the next six years. The new blood would produce more vigorous fish. Mr. Phillips had urged that property owners should be encouraged to plant native trees on the banks of the streams. • /
Mr. R. H. Nimmo moved: "That it be a recommendation to the incoming council that live bait fishing should be allowed in the Hutt and Whako.tiki Rivers from month to source.” Mr. Nimrao stated that a grave injustice to live bait fishermen had been done when it was decided to limit their fishing to between Belmont and the Hutt River mouth. The motion was seconded by Mr. W. E. Talbot and carried by a large majority.
