HOUGHTON VALLEY
PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION. At the general monthly meeting of the Houghton Valley Progressive Association held last week the following resolution was passed to lie forwarded to the Eastern Suburbs League: /’The Houghton Valiev Progressive Association unites with you in protesting against the Order-in-Council bus regulations on the ground that some of the clauses are too severe and will, as a consequence, react against the people in the way of increased fares and overcrowding. .We are of opinion that the regulations should have been discussed by all of the people’s . representatives in Parliament assembled. Further, Wellington lends itself to more bus transport owing to its hilly surroundings. . We rre also of the opinion that municipal transport should be more for service, not profit, In building up reserve funds to be transferred later into the general accoun , and that after June 10 we, as a league, should carefully watch the actions of the Wellington transport authorities, and do our utmost to ensure a continuation of the efficient bus service at the present fares and a further extension of the service to all outlying districts as feeders to a central system.” Mr. Bruce moved that a request bo made to the Reserves Committee for a thousand trees for. beautifying the district, the residents to form a working bee. A letter of congratulations is to be sent to the Hon. R. A. Wright, Minister of Education and member for the district, on his recent appointment. A letter was received from the town clerk advising that the matter of lights for Buckley Road and the path through the Town Belt was receiving attention.
