THEFT OF A MOTOR-CAR

YOUNG MAN SENTENCED. “It appears that you iiave made up your mind to live by criminality, instead of by honest labour,” said Mr. Justice Reed in the Supreme Court yesterday in sentencing George Matin (aged 24), alias Matthews, who had pleaded guilty to the theft, of a motor-ear at Palmerston North on May 20. When asked if he had anything to say, prisoner replied in the negative. “Judging from the report before me,” continued His Honour, “you were discharged from your employment for laziness. You cannot get work because you are not trusted, and you have previously been convicted. In the present case you stole a motor-cai al Palmerston North and drove into Wellington, where you repainted the car and applied for registration. Then you practically pawned the car.” Accused was sentenced to two years’ reicrmative detention.
