HOKKAIDO ERUPTION
« — WIDESPREAD DAMAGE TO PROPERTY Tokio, May 27. The Hokkaido eruption destroyed 12 miles of the Furano River, 5 miles of the Kambetsu River, 33 bridges, and 730 houses. The damage is estimated at 8f million yeti. In addition, several hundred houses were submerged and seriouslv damaged, whilst much destruction was done to paddie fields, farm lands, and in sulphur mines, from which 25 bodies were recovered.—Reuter.
