BOROUGH ELECTRICAL UNDERTAKING
REDUCTION OF LIGHTING CHARGES IN SIGHT “Dominion” Special. Palmerston North April 12. “The borough electrical undertaking has made wonderful progress, and is still continuing to develop.” stated a financial statement presented to the Palmerston North Borough Council at the meetin" to-night by the town clerk, Mr. J. R. Hardie. “It is anticipated that the income for the year 1926-1927 will show a considerable increase, find that the whole of the interest and sinking fund payable on the capital cost will be forthcoming out of revenue, thus relieving tho ratepayers of the special rats now collected. Moreover, the electrical engineer is looking forward to the possibility of being able to recommend: the council to reduce the present charge for lighting.” It was stated that the electrical account showed a credit of £4247 12s. 4d., and the revenue of the department had increased by £18,167 6s. Bd. over last year. Tho year’s receipts amounted to £34,977 15s. Towards this figure sales of current produced £26,723 18s., street lighting £2500, and ordinary sales £4913 Bs. The expenditure reached a total of £32,826 13s. lOd. Apart from salaries, power house maintenance, etc., this account devoted the sum of £7OOO towards part payment of interest on capital, and £lOOO towards clerical expenses, and also met capital expenditure out of revenue as follows: —Extension of mains and, services, £4944 ss. 4d.; purchase of meters, £934 Ils. 4d.: power house boiler, etc., £865 14s. 9d.; part cost of railway siding, £900; part cost of new store, £640.
