April 11, 5.5 p.m.) London, April 10. “I’m not a nigger, so I cannot write jazz,” declared Herr Strauss, who arrived from Vienna to conduct the orchestra for Ihc screen presentation of the opera “Rosenkavalier.” ‘‘Whether jazz is better than other music I will not say. Jazz is beyond my understanding. There will be no. saxophone in mv orchestra, if I know' it.’.’ Herr Strauss claimed the right to clibnge his previous opinion that barrel organ music was good enough for films.
