WILKINS IN THE AIR AGAIN
4 SECOND TRIP TO POINT BARROW ATTEMPT TO SUCCOUR ROSS PARTY (Rec. April 11, 5.5 p.m.) Vancouver, April 10. A. message from Fairbanks states that Captain Wilkins hopped off this morning in the aeroplane Alaskan on his second trio to Point Barrow. The main object ot the flight is to succour the party endeavouring to carry supplies overland to Point Barrow from the Alaska tailroad, who are reported to be starving, Wilkins planning to drop food when the party is sighted.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Wilkins and Eielson left Fairbanks this morning in matchless flying weather, carrying two tons of freight, including 150 extra gallons of gasoline for a later trip across the pole. En route they will attempt to relieve the Ross partv. Wilkins expressed doubt if they would be able to locate the party amid the difficult country apd the tangle of rivers where thev are held up. He declared: “It will be like looking for a needle in a haystack. It is very unlikely we shall be able to deliver the dog feed. Our flving height will be at least 5000 feet, and we might strike trouble if we descended within a hundred feet of the ground to drop the packages.” He hopes to return from Barrow on Monday or Tuesday.—Sydney “Sun” Cable.
