The engineer reported that satisfactory maintenance ■work in all the ridings had been carried out, tnd that several bridges had been i epaired and strengthened. There wore still several others which necried immediate attention. A temporary bridge had been erected across tho Upokongaro stream in the Maugawhero Riding in place of the old truss bridge, which collapsed on March 26, under a heavilyladen motor-lorry. The council congratulated the engineer and his staff on the expeditious way in which they had carried out this work, having had temporary bridge open for traffic within almost twenty-four hours.
