A FACTORY PROJECT An Order-in-Council dated March 30 licenses Joseph Augustus Perano to occupy a portion of Crown land in Tory' Channel “as a site for a whale factory.” At first sight a "whale factory ” might be regarded as a factory for making whales, but this one is for unmaking them. One of the conditions is that if the licensee "fails to dispose of the whale carcasses,” or if he disposes of them so as to cause a nuisance or menace to health, then the license and all rights will be revoked. Tory Channel has had whaling associations from remote times, and the name Perano has long been allied with the industrv.
