LYALL BAY SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Lyall Bay School Committee was held m the schoolroom on Tuesday evening. ihe chairman of the committee (Mr. J. J±. Biirgoy ne-Thomas) presided. The headmaster (Mr. A. C. Blake) in his report stated that the average attendance for the March quarter was 777 pupils, which was 94.6 per cent, of the average roll number. It was stated that the halyard attached to the flagstaff had again been removed, this time so violently as to bring down the truck. This is rhe third occasion within tho last few imyithe that the halyard has been sto en. The school was visited during last week bv three inspectors. Miss 'V. Gowdy, of the teaching staff, has been transferred to the beatoun School, and Miss Dora flume has tendered her resignation, with the intention of leaving New Zealand shortly on a trip to the British Isles. The Education Board notified that Misses L. E. Whiting and E. R- Palmer had been appointed to fill the vacancies in tho teaching staff. . The Workers’ Educational Association was granted the use of a classroom on Monday nights during flhe winter session (24 weeks) for the purpose of holding an “Appreciation of Music ’ • class under Mr. Charles W. Kerry. By arrangement Mr. W. H. Sadd, » member of the committee, and Mr. Powell, clerk of works to the Education Board, met and conferred on the matters at the school that required urgent attention. Mr. Sadd submitted his report and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The secretary was instructed to submit the recommendations to the Education Board with a request that it carry out the necessary ivprk. Arrangements, it was reported, baa been made for the Anzac service to be held at the school on the afternoon of April 23, the date fixed by the Education Board, owing to Anzac. Day falling on a Sunday this year. Mr. A. ' Sando was appointed deputychairman for the occasion. A minister will take charge of the- service nnd speakers will be provided by the Returned Soldiers’ Association. A specisd meeting of the committee will lie held on April 19 to arrange for the annual householders’, meeting and election of school committee on Monday, May 3.
