Marton, April S. A progressive pairs tournament was played on tho Marton bowling green on Monday, anti resulted in W. Dunean (skip) defeating G. Duck (skip) in the final, by a small margin. On Friday tho final for tho Rangitikei Bowling Shield will take place at Marton, between two rinks from Huuterville and a' team from Tail; ape. Mr. A. T. Gatrell, formerly of the Argyle Hotel (Hunterville), has taken over tho new Marton Hotel from Mr. J. Hannan, who intends to follow fanning pursuits in Matiere. A team of Hataitai cricketers spent the Easter holidays in Taihape, and took ptfrt inNlirco matches with local player's. Tho first match resulted in a win for the city team by a margin of 48 runs, but in the second, which was against Moawhango, they were defeated by 32 runs. In the third game Taihape won, the margin on this ocasion being only 28 runs. Tho Rangitikei football season will open next week, the juniors playing their first matches on Wednesday, and tho seniors on the following Saturday. The prospects are reported to bo even brighter than they were last year.
