An extraordinary situation has arisen in connection with a Wanganui local body’s negotiations over the rent of a section it owns (reports the '‘Chronicle”). The tenants originally offered a sum which was considered too low, and it was agreed that arbitrators should decide the 1 issue. The arbitrators disagreed, so an umpire was called upon, and his decision was a price much lower than the tenants’ first offer. This the local body declined to accept, while the tenants refuse to pay more. The result is that the parties are still bargaining.
