EASTBOURNE BOROUGH

SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING. The Mayor (Mr. H. M. Jones) presided at a special meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council on Friday. Also present were: Councillors S. Edilson, J. Laing, R. G. Holmes, H. Black, H. J. Levy, and S. H. Jenkinson. The Mayor explained that trustees of the old Rona Bay Tennis Club property in Totara Street hnd handed over the court to the council subject to certain conditions. It was decided to sell the property, the proceeds to be devoted to sports bodies. On the motion of Councillor Black it was resolved to obtain legal opinion on the position before the next meeting. The Eastbourne Football Club requested that the recreation reserve be widened by shifting the fence on the Oroua Street side. It was decided to agree to the proposal providing that the club bore the cost of shifting the fence. On the motion of the Mayor it was decided that when the fence is shifted a gate be placed in the middle of the fence between the cricket and football grounds, the council to bear the cost if necessary.
