AUSTRALIAN CRUISERS

TO ARRIVE THIS MORNING DETAILS OF OFFICIAL PROGRAMME The Australian cruisers Sydney, Adelaide, and Delhi, are expected to arrive at Wellington at 7 a.in. to-day from the south. The Adelaide and Delhi are coming from Lyttelton, and the Sydney, which is the flagship, from Dunedin. A programme has been drawn up for the entertainment of the officers and sailors during their stay in Wellington. The purpose of the visit ol the squadron to New Zealand waters is to carry out exercises and manoeuvres with the ships of the New Zealand Squadron, in the Hauraki Gulf. Yearly joint manoeuvtes'haye been arranged, and they’ will take place in Australian and New Zealand waters alternately. The Sydney is under the command of Commodore T. E. Wardell. Captain G H. Massey is in command of the Adelaide, and Captain Manners is in charge of the Delhi. At 11 a.m. to-day, the commodore of the squadron will call on the Ministers of the Crown, who will return the visit to the flagship at 11.30 a.m. The usual courtesy calls will be made during the dav by the Deputy-Mayor, naval and defence officers, and the Harbour Board. A civic reception will be held in the Town Hall at 12.15 _p.ni., and a number of the officers will be entertained at lunch at the Wellington Ciub In the evening the Navy League is to give a dance for the men in the Town Hall. To-morrow there will be a Government luncheon in Parliament House to the commodore and officers of the three ships, at which the Hon. Sir Francis Bell will preside. In the evening the Navy League has made arrangements to hold a ball for the officers in the Town Flail. A trip to Featherston has been arranged for the commodore and twelve officers on Thursday. The party will go up by motor and return by train. The programme of entertainment has not yet been completed, and it is probable ’ that other functions and outings will be arranged. The three cruisers are to leave Wellington on Saturday for Hauraki Gulf and Auckland.
