STAFF PICNIC
The stall of Messrs. W. D. and 11. 0. Wills (N.Z.) Ltd. held its annual picnic at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, on Tuesday last, when a most enjoyab.e day was spent. A varied programme of athletic sports was carried out and t tlie various events were followed with enthusiasm, the challenge cup for the highest number of championship points being won this year by head office. At the conclusion of the events afternoon tea was served, after which the prizes ware presented by Mrs. J. E. Ramsey. The following is the list of prize-win-ners: —High jump: H. D. Preston 1, E. M. Hunt 2, C. Francis 3. 100yds. championship; H. D. Preston 1, J. E. Tunnington 2, C. Francis 3. Cigarette race: Barr and Miss Cohen 1, Kelly and Miss Lucas 2, Preston and Miss Russell 3. Sack race: C. Baker 1. H. D. Preston 2, R. Hollands 3. Elopement race: Wagg and Miss Hesketh 1, Baggett and Mrs. Neilson 2, Tunnington and Miss Philp 3. Thread the needle: Preston and Miss Bray 1, Barr and Miss Cotter 2, Francis and’ Miss Golding 3. Egg and spoon: Miss Cotter 1. Miss Mcßride 2, Miss Sinclair 3. 100yds. (girls _ under 18): Miss Sinclair 1, Miss Rowling 2, Miss Gollop 3. lOOyds, (girls over 18) : Miss Evans and Miss Mcßride (dead heat)' 1. Miss Leckie 3. Long jump championship: H. D. Preston 1, P W. Blundell 2 A. D. Watts 3. lOOyds. handicap: C. Halford 1. R. Cross 2, P. W. Blundell 3. Relay race: Sales branch 1, factory 2, head office 3. Tug-of-war: Sales branch 1, factory 2. head office 3. championship points: Head office 20, sales branch 17, factory 8. Mr. Pankhurst’s orchestra supplied the latest music and the excellent arrangements reflected great credit upon the committee.
