AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE

CONFERENCE TO BE HELD Palmerston North, February 12. A conference between the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Associations, and the Chamber of Commerce, was held this morning, to consider matters in connection with the proposed Agricultural College. The whole trend of the discussion was to the effect that no parochialism should be introduced, that as the two universities had now decided that the college should be located in the PalmerstonMarton area, all parties should endeavour to pull together and assist the Government and the universities to arrive at a satisfactory decision as to the site. It was resolved to hold a conference on Monday, February 22, at 10.30 a.m.. and invite the following bodies to send (delegates: Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, Feilding A. and P. Association, Farmers’ Union. N.Z. Dairy Farmers’ Union. Chambers of Commerce (Palmerston North and Feilding), High Schools (Palmerston North and Feilding), and the bodv already set up in Marton. It was also decided to invite Messrs. I. A. Nash, M.P., W. H. Glenn. M.P., J. Linklater, M.P., and G. Eliot, M.P., to be present. Mr. T. H. Perrett, president of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, presided at the meeting. RANGITIKEI’S CLAIMS.

The Hon. A. D. McLeod (Minister of Land®) and possibly the Hon. O. J. Hawken (Minister of Agriculture), and the Hon Sir James Parr (Minister of Education) will nay an official visit to the Rangitikei district on February 25. A tour of inspection is to be arranged with a view to pointing out the suitability of the district for the proposed agricultural college. Several claims will be brought before the notice of the Ministerial party. Mr. McLeod is to open the Marton show on February 24, and on that evening the three Ministers will be entertained at a dinner in the White Hart Hotel.
