SHIPLOAD OF MOTORS

A VALUABLE CARGO By Telegraph.—Press Association Auckland, Febrnary.il. Nearly -1500 motor-cars for New Zealand, as well as hundreds of motortractors, arrived from Canada by the Canadian Government steamer Canadian ' Spinner, which reached Auckland from Halifax yesterday morning.' Ihe average value of the motor-cars imported into New Zealand last year was about £l9O, so that the cars on the ship represent a value of about £850,000. Practically the whole of the Canadian Spinner’s cargo consisted of motor imports. Besides cars, she carried a large quantity of motor parts and tractors. Auckland’s share of the cargo weighs 2400 tons, including 1280 cars and 306 tractors. The remainder of-s the cargo is for southern ports. Apart from other motor goods, Wellington is to receive 1980 cars, Lyttelton 239 Timaru 667, and Dunedin 256.

The Canadian Spinner's consignment of cars has been exceeded at least once before, when a steamer of the Canadian Government Line brought over 5000 cars for New Zealand ports.
