VICE-REGAL. His Excellency the Governor-General left Dunedin yesterday morning for Auckland.—Press Assn Viscount and Lady Allenby have returned to Sydney from a tour of the western part of New South Wales. They are passengers for Auckland by the Ulimaroa. Visiting- Wellington at present is Mr. Louis Marks, of Brisbane, a brother of Mr. Marcus Marks, of Wellinglington and his memory of the place extends back to the days when the waters of the harbour lapped the seaward side of Lambton Quay. Mr. Marks intends to visit the Exhibition at Dunedin before returning to Queensland.
Mr. Winter Hall, the well known moving picture actor of Hollywood, who is spending a holiday in New Zealand, is at present in Wellington.
Advice has been received from Melbourne that Dr. M. T. MacEachern, the well-known American authority on hospitals, will arrive in Wellington on February 15.
Mr. W. E. L. Napier, of Auckland, on behalf of his mother and family, has decided to hand over to the Devonport Borough Council the whole of the late W. J. Napier’s library.
Mr. T. U. Wells will represent the Auckland Education Board at a conference in Wellington .on the training of teachers on February 9 next.
Major Benjamin Harris, who retired voluntarily three years ago from the Legislative Council, celebrated his ninetieth birthday at Epsom, Auckland, on Wednesday last. He served through the Maori war of the ’sixties, and had been a member of Parliament for fifty-two years.
