Madrid, January 18.
Several persons were seriously injured and a hundred are homeless as the result of a hurricane breaking over the Canary Islands, according to messages from Las Palmas. A deluge of rain swelled the mountain torrents. Bridges, roads, and tramways were swept away, and several villages were destroyed. The banana plantations were devastated, including one which had lately been sold for a million pesetas, and which was obliterated by the in-running sea. Las Palmas town is a desolate sight. A number of house® collapsed. Whole streets have fallen in. liven the cemeteries were wrecked and coffins torn out.—Reuter.
