KAIRANGA COUNTY

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Kairangu County Council was held yesterday, Mr. J. Batchelor presiding. The council agreed to spend =£2oo in furnishing the now council chambers. It was decided that a poll bo taken to obtain tho ratepayers’ consent to tlio raising of .£2OOO for the Fitz.hcrbert riding for bridges and culverts, a loan of .£2OOO for the Taonui riding ' for renewal of bridges and culverts' the poll to bo taken on February 25. Messrs. Clevely and Scheldt waited on the council regarding tlio grading and levelling of Bunnythorpo cemetery road, and it was decided to leave the matter in tho hands of the members for the riding, with power to act. A special meeting followed, at which it was decided that Wednesday be the statutory half-holiday for shops in tho county. It was resolved io take steps to cut down noxious weeds on the county roads. A letter from ratepayers in regard to noxious weeds on properties in the Lower Aorangi and Lockwood districts was to bo reported to tho inspector, with a request to take drastic stops to enforce removal. Ten per cent, will be added to all rates unpaid after March 1.
