WHERE IS PALMERSTON?

IGNORANCE ABROAD ,

(By Telegranh—Special Feporter.) Palmerston North, January 18.

At to-night’s meeting of the Palmerston Borough Council Councillor R. Edwards mentioned n recent report in The Dominion regarding a letter received from. Philadelphia, U.S.A., asking, “Where is Palmerston Not th?” He regretted that he could not compliment the Government upon leaving the outside world so ignorant as to the situation of one of the most important centres in New Zealand. Whilst it would he a very big job for the Government to send maps to each patt of the world, he suggested that the Publicity Department should issue a booklet giving full details of New Zealand towns and leading centres. The Mayor (Mr. F. J. Nathan) said that he understood that the matter of publicity was now being pursued more energetically. He was not in -agreement with Councillor M. A. Eliott’s suggestion that the name of Palmerston North should be changed to Manawatn. There was only one Palmerston North in the whole of the Empire and letters so addressed always found their destination. It would probably not be so if the name were changed to Manawat-j.
