“I WANT MY TIRE"
CHILD HOLDS UP ATHLETIC MEETING A very amusing incident occurred at Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon during the progress of the second meeting for tlie Dewar Shield competition. 'Die youthful competitors in the 440 yards motor tire race had just been allotted their positions, and everything was in readiness for tlie event to start, when a little boy, about three years old, toddled across the field .to the starting place. 'The manner in which he gave vent to his feelings must have made tlie man with the megaphone feci quite insignificant. A roar of laughter went up from the crowd when the little fellow approached one of the competitors, locked his arms round the tire, and yelled cs hard as his voice would allow: “Give me —give me —my tire. Something had to be done, so an official took it upon himself to try and pacify the tearful one, but it was of no avail. As the race had now been held up for several minutes, somebody dashed across the field and returned with a motor-cvclc tire. But the trouble .was by no 'means over, and the position l'“came amusing in the extreme'when the youngster, after haying put one arm through the new tire, still clung to and demanded his brother’s as well. It appeared that nothing in the world would pacify him. Realising the position, his brother decided to withdraw from the race, and walked off the fieln with the youngster still crying and clinging to the tire.
