MAYOR MAKES AN APPEAL
ON BEHALF OF A DEAF AND DUMB MAN.
, A young man, 23. years of age, practically deaf and dumb, sought the advice of His Worship the Major yesterday as to employment. There is not in the Corporation service any position suitable for such an employee, but Mr. Norwood considers that the applicant is thoroughly genuine, and would be capable of carrying out routine duties very efficiently if a suitable position could be found for him. He is therefore making an appeal to those who could find a position for this young man to communicate with him through the town clerk without delav. ,
“This is an unusual case," said Air. Norwood, “and therefore I am taking this somewhat unusual course of asking the Press to make known my appeal, This young chap is of -good address, a keen and intelligent young nian, and though lie is barred from undertaking ordinary types of work, there must surely be a niche into which he will fit and an employer to whom he will give very good service."
