PROHIBITION IN EUROPE
MR “PUSSYFOOT” JOHNSON ON THE POSITION. New York, January 10. Mr. "Pussyfoot” Johnson lias returned from a tour of Europe, and expressed satisfaction at the advancement of Prohibition there, particularly in Turkev. He said that a lot of nonsense hfd been printed in the newspapers about Turkey. The Turks tried Prohibition, and it was a failure through politics, and the country had gone back to liquor, which was heavilv taxed. The rum trade was chiefly in the hands of foreigners, and in Constantinople, where 1100 licensed drinking shops out of 1400 were onerated bv" - Armenians, Greeks, and other so■•piled "Christians.” One Turkish ofi- .•;->! said. “\Ve let ’em drink all they like.
