A number of American tourists, who visited Te Aroha during the Christmas week-end, have been amused at the parochial policy that prevented them from enjoying a game of tennis early on Sunday morning (states the Auckland “Star”) They were also surprised and amused at the attitude of a local tourist agent who could supply them with no information of trips in the district, and wondered why they should wish to leave the confines of the town for sight-seeing purposes. He explained that there were a score of more Dot springs, both for bathing and drinking and that the town possessed various scenic attractions. When the Americans made other inquiries they found that extravagant demands were made for tours by motor-car, and the onlv reasonable offer was a sorry gig and an ill-nourished horse. In the circumstances thev were strongly disposed ro go on to Thames, but discovered that 110 service car was available, and they liad to remain in Te Aroha until a train passed through on Mondav morning. The bulk of tb.c main lemon crop, which was gathered in November and December, has been sold, and few lemons are being stored now in Gisborne by the growers (states the “Poverty Bay Herald”). Despite the fact that Australian lemons have been on the southern market for some time, several shipments of Poverty Bav lemons were sent forward, and it is believed that the returns have been satisfactory far as the growers were concerned. There is no doubt t’mt there arc possibilities ahead for Povcrtv Bay lemons in the South Island, and it is probabV that each season will see larger quantities sent to the south.
