The New Zealand team commenced a match against Maitland district at West Maitland. The weather was fine and the wicket good. The New Zealanders gave the local team a leather hunt. The bowling was completely collared. Dacre gave a sparkling exhibition, one of. the best seen on the ground. Crawford and James also batted brilliantly and helped to add to Maitland’s misfortune. It was a long time, if ever before, that Maitland spectators saw over 600 scored in one dav’s play.
