MAY NOW BE SENT TO ARGENTINE EMBARGO LIFTED A cablegram was received by Signor H. Bidone, Consul-General for the Argentine, from the Argentine Government yesterday, stating that the embargo placed upon the entry of New Zealand apples into the Argentine had been removed. The cablegram stated that the embargo had been removed pending a report which would be submitted by two technical fruit experts whom the Argentine Government were sending to New Zealand regarding the presence or otherwise of the fruit fly in the Dominion. The removal of the embargo upon the shipment of New Zealand apples to the Argentine was brought about by representations by the New Zealand . Government, supported by Signor Bidone, through the Governor-General of NewZealand, to the British Consul at Buenos Ayres. The two Argentine experts will arrive in the Dominion by the Tainui on February 15, and their investigations as far as the presence of fruit fly in the Dominion is concerned will be a sinecure, as that particular form of fruit pest has never obtained a footing in this country. Upon their reporting to their Government that New Zealand is clear of fruit fly, the embargo upon the entry of New Zealand apples to the Argentine will be permanently lifted. In the meantime, orcliardists will be pleased to learn that a prospective market, which promised to develop into a valuable one, is ouce again open to them.
