PRINCE CAROL
VOLUNTARY IMPRISONMENT IN MILAN HOTEL MUSSOLINI LIKELY TO INTERVENE AND ORDER EXPULSION OF THE COUPLE By Telegraph.—Press Association. Copyright. (Rec. January 10, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 9. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Rome correspondent says Prince Carol’s voluntary imprisonment in a Milan hotel is creating the city’s greatest sensation. While it is admitted that he chose a fashionable residence there is a distinct difference of opinion regarding tile merits of the alleged beauty for whom he has sacrificed, his royal honours. The attitude of Prince Carol himself is commanding a degree of respect, and even of admiration. Meanwhile the hotel is undergoing a siege day and night by Italian and foreign journalists. Prince Carol’s chauffeur is unable to approach owing to fear that he will be mobbed. There is speculation as to how long the impossible situation will be allowed to continue. It is likely that Signor Mussolini will intervene, ordering the expulsion of the Prince and the lady from Italian territory, as undesirable visitors.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
