FIRE AT PAHIATUA

A fire broke out in Beggar’s Tearooms, Pahiatua, at 4.45 yesterday morning and completely gutted the premises. Hartley’s draper’s shop and F. T. Moore’s shop were damaged by smoke and water, and Cosford and Russell’s, hairdressers, suffered from smoke and heat, while Hannah’s boot shop also suffered from smoke. The whole front of the building, which is owned by Mrs. R. Hannah, of Wellington, will, it is stated, need to be remodelled. The brigade is given, credit for a good save. The insurance companies interested are the New Zealand, Commercial Union, and Liverpool and London and Globe.
