As the result of a visit to a portion of the main highway in the. vicinity of Marton by Messrs. F. R. McKenzie and G. Fear (traffic inspectors), several service car owners will be prosecuted for an offence of the Motor Vehicles Act. namely, exceeding the maximum width allowed for luggage carried on the side of cars. It is noteworthy that the Act stipulates that luggage must not project beyond the running board of passenger vehicles. Through a tap having been left turned on 600 gallons of stout was lost at the Main Trunk Brewery last week. After flooding the cellar and causing a good deal of trouble, the stout was pumped down the drain. On Thursday, near Huntcrville, a trap occupied by three children was hit by a train. Fortunately the children were thrown clear, and escaped with only a few cuts and bruises. Several members of the Marton Presbyterian Bible Class arc at present attending the annual conference at Oamaru. They will afterwards pay a visit to the exhibition at Dunedin.'

In spite of warnings that have been issued through the Press and by means of notices on the highway to the effect that the maximum load to be carried over the Turakina bridge is eight tons, a motor-lorry owner recently passed .over the structure with a load weighing approximately eleven tons. At the present time complaints arc being lodged by motorists ns to the condition of tlie road at the. other side of Waiigaelitt, and it is hoped that improvements will be carried out here m the near future.
