IMMENSE DAMAGE IN RHINELAND MANY PERSONS AWAITING RESCUE (Rec. January 8, 7.25 p.m.) Berlin, January 7. An immense amount of damage has been done by the floods in the Rhineland. The damage to the harbour at Dusseldorf is estimated at a million marks. Fifteen firms in the vicinity have claimed 867,000 marks. Claims already entered at Coblenz exceed two million marks.—Reuter.

While the Rhine, Waal, and Meuse have fallen, the river Ysel is at a record height. A thousand people have already been rescued from attics, roofs, or dvkes. but many are still awaiting rescue. Many have lost all their possessions. Queen Wilhelmina visited the military barracks at Ede, where many flood victims, mostly women and children, are sheltered. —Reuter.
