The Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. R. F. Bollard) will return to Wellington to-dav from the Waikato. Mr. T. Forsvth, M.F., has returned from a trip to' Hamilton.,, the Horohoro Falls power house, and Tc Awamutu. Dr. L. D. Cohen, of Wellington, has returned from Russell, where he spent , a good time fishing. Major-General E. H. Willis and Mrs. Willis, of India, are visiting Rotorua. Captain C. E. Blarney, of Wellington, who returned by the s.s. Niagara after a five months’ trip to Canada, United States, Great Britain, and Japan, is spending a few davs in Auckland.

The Rev. R. C. Haise, formerly head of the Queensland Bush Brotherhood, has been enthroned Bishop of Rivcrina, reports a Press Association cablegram from Sydney.-

Mr. Richard Newton, of Kelburn, who died suddenly last week, was an engineer and importer and a member of the well-known firm of Newton Bros. Derby, England. It is intended that his remains will finally rest in his own Home town, Derby. Mr. Newton, with his family, arrived in Wellington two years ago. seeking a rest nnd better health. His energetic charactei << on reauired an outlet, and consequently he started business, and had gathered together in the short period a good connection. His genial temperament and straightforward dealing soon 'made him a number of friends who sincerely mourn his passing awav.

A Press Association message from Invercargill reports the death of Mr. A. B. Haggitt, barrister, of the firm of Messrs. Watson and Haggitt, after a brief illness, at the age of 56. He was the son of Mr. B. C. Haggitt, formerly Crown Prosecutor at Dunedin. He was an ex-councillor, and took an active part in local affairs. He is survived by a widow and a family of three. Mr William Hepburn, an old resident of Pctone, passed away at. the Wellington Hospital on Tuesday night, after a short illness. The deceased was 75 years of age and came to New Zealand from County Roscommon, Ireland, as a young man, and joined the Armed Constabulary. Fie was one .of the party sent to enter the domains, oi that redoubtable war chief Te Kooti, to offer a free pardon. This was a veryhazardous journey as no white man had ever had the temerity to enter the stronghold of the renowned Maori watrior Mr. Hepburn, served with the Colonial Forces from 1879 to 1888. He was then transferred to the Defence Store Department, and amongst his duties was the conveyance of ammunition from Wellington to the old fort at Kaiwarra. He was a leading cab proprietor of Wellington for many years, and was noted with Mr. Thomas Lyons to possess the most up-to-date and luxurious vehicles in New Zealand. Of late years he was a popular employee of the Petone Workshops and a member of the Forresters’ Lodge (Court Epu.ml. Deceased leaves a widow and eight children. Messrs. Thomas, Bernard, and Stanley Hepburn, of the Wellington tramwav staff, and Mr. Robert Hepburn also of Wellington, are the sons, and Mesdames J. Whelan (Melbourne), F. Marchment (Heretaunga), F Dolling (Petone), and H. S. Nicholls (Wellington) the daughters. Mrs. David Snence, 7’S rears of age, of St. Albans. Christchurch, and Mrs. Stirling, of Melbourne, mother of Mr. William Stirling, of Pctone, are sisters of the deceased,
