“A GREAT COUNTRY”
BRITISH BOWLERS’ IMPRESSIONS The members of the British bowling team arrived in Palmerston from Wanganui about 10 o’clock yesterday morning. The majority of the visitors travelled by motor-car, and bad an opportunitv of seeing many places of interest er. route. A number, however, travelled bv train, and arrived before midday. The morning was spent informally, and manv of the visitors spent a few hours inspecting the town and its attractions. The majority of the players bear the evidences of sun, wind, and travel, and although manv of them have had a strenuous time, they are all looking in excellent condition.
The bowlers have nothing but praise to offer for New Zealand and its people, and claim to be amazed at t!«- hospitality that lias been accorded to them wherever thev have been. All have expressed surprise at the beauty of the many scenic attractions through which thev have passed, and many of them have already collected quite a number of curios and mementos to take back to the Old Country with them. The frequently-made assertion that New Zealand is the most British of all the Dominions has again been made by the visitors, who have expressed their delight in finding another Britain so many thousands of miles away from the Mother Country.
In the afternoon the visitors were taken on a tour of inspection of the municipal bowline clubs and were much impressed with the splendid greens. A trip through the esplanade received favourable, comment from the visitors, who were also delighted with the town’s "lung area” and the surroundings. On arrival at the Palmerston North Bowlimr Club’s green the bowlers were welcomed bv the Deputy-Afavor (Councillor A. T. Graham) on behalf of the municinalitv. Councillor Graham expressed the bone that their visit would be n most enjoyable one and would enable them to carrv with them good impressions of Palmerston North. His regret was that their st.iv would not permit of a visit to the manv beautv spots of the town, which had before it a great future.
Air. I. A. Nash, on behalf of the Manawatu Bowline' Centre, and Air. H. L. Young, president of the Chamber of Commerce, representing the commercial interests, also extended a heartv welcome to the visitors.
