MAGISTRATE’S COURT < Mr. IV. G. Riddell, S.M., presided in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. On a charge of being illegally ott licensed premises after hours, Edward Townley Lloyd was fined j£l, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. For aiding Lloyd in the offence, Arthur Hugh Julian was fined £l, in default twentyfour hours’ imprisonment. Robert Irvine Owens, who appeared, on five charges of breaking and entering and theft at Wellington, was remanded to January 13. Thomas Balmer, a second offender for drunkenness, was convicted and discharged. For a breach of his prohibition order, he was fiued 4:2, in default seven davs’ imprisonment. Angus Harry McNabb was fined 10s. for assaulting George Gardiner. George Gardiner, alias Morse, alias "Bricky” Gardiner, was fined 412, in default seven days’ imprisonment, for a fourth offence of drunkenness. On a charge of being in charge of a motor truck while in a state of intoxication, Herbert Denham was remanded to January 12. Bail in the sum of 4:20 was allowed. Jeffrey Arnot, charged with deserting his wife in Victoria without making adequate provision for her maintenance, vras remanded to January 15. Doris Michael, on a charge of stealing a purse valued at 10s., the property of"F. Allen, was remanded to January 9. Bail was allowed in the sum of .£5.
