Charles Holdener, a single man, was driving a horse and cart over a railway crossing, near the Waverley racecouise, yesterday afternoon when he was run down by a train. He was unconscious when picked up and was conveyed by the train to Patea, where he was admitted to the hospital suffering from concussion.' The cart was smashed to pieces, but the horse was uninjured. The crossing is a very dangerous one and has been the scene of many serious accidents, at least one proving fatal. Holdener’s condition to-night shows little improvement.
