REGARDING CAROL’S RENUNCIATION

PLOTS TO OVERTHROW GOVERNMENT

Bz Telegbaph—Press AssociationUoPYBIGBT"

(Rec. January 5, 7.5 p.m.) London, January 4. The Bucharest correspondent of the “Daily Mail” says that Prince Carol has undertaken not to return to Rumania for ten years. While the newspapers assert that the renunciation was directly due to the antagonism of the Premier, M. Bratiauo, a report is gaining currency in Austria and Germany that 'Carol, . having the support of many Rumanian officers, headed an army plot to overthrow the Government, arranging to remain abroad himself until the psychological moment, which was planned for tomorrow. The Government discovered the plot and arrested the conspirators. —Sydney ■ “Sun” Cable. Vienna, January 4. , The “Neue Frei Presse” states that after frequent altercations the King permitted Prince Carol to go on holiday, conditional on his returning within twenty days. Thereupon he sent him to Queen Alexandra’s funeral, Prince Carol’s behaviour in London caused anxiety, especially his leaving London prematurely and enjoying himself ostentatiously in Paris. The Queen wrote imploring him to return. Prince Carol answered with his letter of renunciation from Venice.—Sydney “Sun" Cable.

The National Assembly, by 234 votes to 3, ratified Prince Carol’s renunciation of the succession rights and recognised Prince Michel as heir. A provisional Regency Bill was passed creating a council composed of Prince Nicolas, the orthodox patriarch, and the first President of the Court of Cassation. Prince Carol has also waived his parental authority over Prince Michel.—Reuter. DESIRE FOR DIVORCE AND BECOME A CIVILIAN (Rcc. January 5, 7.5 p.m.) Bucharest, January 4.
