A BIG LOSS
MISFORTUNE FOLLOWS GOOD LUCK “I attended the Feilding races on Saturday, and had the good fortune to increase a sum of £6O, which I took witli me. by over £l5O, making the total amount in my wallet someclnng like £216,” -'said Mt. Jack Perrin, a voting farmer from Rangitikci Line, to a representative of The Dominion yesterday. Naturally Mr. Perrin was excccGingIv pleased with his good hick, but having a flock of sheep grazing in the borough reserve (Milverton’s paddock) at the corner of Alexandra and reiguson’s Streets, he made his customary visit to the field to fill the watering trough, and whilst stooping to work a hand rump it is thought that the bulkv wallet louml its way to the top of his inside coat pocket. Apparently, when he went back to the road and cranked his car the valuable container dropped on to the road. About 10 p.m., some three and a han hours later, Mr. Perrin received a telephone ring from Mr. J. W. T'eale, of Russell Street, stating that he bad seen the wallet picked up in front of Mr. M. Cohen’s residence in Grey Street, and that it then contained only a driver’s license and a number of pri vate papers. That evening during the interval at the picture theatre an advertisement was flashed upon the screen stating that a valuable sum of money had been lost, for which a reward of £25 was offered. This, however, brought no response, and on Monday and yesterday an advertisement appeared in the Press offering a reward of £5O for the return of the missing notes. Up till midday yesterday this also had not had the desired effect, and Mr. Perrin has now begun to think that the misfortune which followed his good luck cannot be retrieved. In view of the fact that the loser of the monev did not leave his car in Grey Street, it can only be assumed that the wallet was found outside the sheep paddock and deposited where it was picked up after the notes had been extracted.
