OFFENCES AGAINST YOUTH
DEPARTAEENTAL COAIMITTEE’S SUGGESTIONS. London, December 22. Tho DeiKirtmental Committee which was appointed by tho Labour Government to inquire into the question of offences against young people, has submilted its report. The committee recommends that the ag? of consent be raised to 17. It docs not favour sex instruction in school clasaes, but asserts that students in training colleges should bo so taught. It believes that male and female teachers and social workers can inspire bovs and girls with a proper sense of decency of behaviour, hygiene, and citizenship. The elimination of undesirable conversation. it is said, would be an important step toward countering- the ignorance, carelessness and indifferences at present prevailing. The eominillo? advocates the wider use of women doctors for delicate examinations. and suggests that Courts should bo cleared of all persons except Press ri-nresontatives and welfare workers during tho hearing of chargs of criminal offences. —Sydney “Sun” Cable.
